\n2. Write your idea down<\/h3>\n
Secondly, it\u2019s imperative that you type your idea in your computer as well as make a hard copy and keep it in your files.\u00a0 The idea should not be longer than 3 or 4 pages.\u00a0 If it\u2019s too long, it will get tossed and never read.\u00a0 Tell your story very clearly and methodically.\u00a0 Keep it in the present tense and do not use dialogue<\/span>.\u00a0 After you\u2019ve completed this, it\u2019s important for you to register it with the Writer\u2019s Guild of America (WGA<\/span>) to protect your concept.\u00a0 As long as you protect it through the\u00a0WGA<\/span>, there isn\u2019t any need to copyright it.<\/p>\n
3. Write a cover letter for your movie<\/h3>\n
When you are about to send out your story to producers, whether through snail mail or online, it\u2019s important to write a short cover letter.\u00a0 Include a short synopsis of your story as well as a bit about yourself.\u00a0 Make this letter warm and friendly but still professional.\u00a0 Sign the letter and be sure to include your phone number and email address.<\/p>\n
4. Make a list of Film Producer’s to network with<\/h3>\n
Make a list of the producers that you are going to solicit.\u00a0 Investigate what genres of films they\u2019ve produced in the past.\u00a0 If the producer loves special effects, high adventure films, it is a waste of time to pitch them a romantic comedy.\u00a0 If you are sending hard copies through the mail, add a self-addressed stamped envelope so it\u2019s easy for them to respond to you whether they are interested or not.<\/p>\n
5. Follow up with Producers about your movie pitch<\/h3>\n
Finally, follow up with the producers that you solicited approximately 4 weeks after your emails or mailing.\u00a0 If you don\u2019t feel comfortable doing this, drop them a postcard or shoot them another email.\u00a0 Be kind and friendly and many times you will get a response.\u00a0 The percentage of producers who respond is usually a small amount.\u00a0 But it\u2019s still worth the effort even if only one is interested.\u00a0 Continue mailings and follow up.\u00a0 The only way your idea won\u2019t get produced is if you give up on it yourself.<\/p>\n
